Stamattina la notizia è rimbalzata sui principali siti musicali: il giornale inglese Wednesdays Mirror (già famoso per i suoi fasulli scoop) annuncia a sorpresa che Jay starebbe progettando di lasciare il mondo della musica.
Personalmente non ho assolutamente dato peso alla notizia e mi sono limitato a riportarne il testo solo nel forum del Jamitaly giusto per raccogliere i vostri commenti e per discutere (ancora una volta) di quanto sia triste costruire articoli per riempire le colonne di un giornale.
Ad ogni modo nel pomeriggio arriva secca la smentita dal sito ufficiale con un comunicato che vi riporto di seguito:

OK, so there is a story in today’s Mirror implying Jay is quitting the music business: Needless to say they’ve got it completely wrong! You see, in a quick chat with one of the paper’s journalists following his record breaking Gig in the Sky yesterday, Jay mentioned he was taking time out to update his home studio and take some time off before the band go back in to start writing a new album later in the year. He also talked about working on new arrangements of songs so next time they go out on tour they have fresh take on the tracks they play live perhaps incorporating strings or horns. Perhaps they should listen next time! When they gonna learn? On seeing the way his chat was reported today in the Mirror Jay said “As usual they got it wrong for a cheap headline! All I said was that we’re taking a bit of time out to get the studio refurbished and we’ll be back making music in a few months time. There’s no way I’m quitting the music business – now I am out of my long contract with SonyBMG we have so many options open to us we’re just going to take our time and get it right – its just getting interesting!”

Il sito ufficiale dei Jamiroquai ha aggiornato le ultime informazioni sull’evento di ieri comunicando anche la setlist del concerto che la band ha tenuto ad Atene, una volta atterrati, davanti ad un pubblico di 200 persone.

Arrivano altri aggiornamenti dal sito ufficiale dei Jamiroquai e nuove foto che trovate pubblicate anche sul nostro forum (clicca qui!).
Jamiroquai have just landed in…..Athens, Greece, after what was an amazing gig by all accounts. Upon boarding the specially adapted plane in Munich, attendees were greeted by air stewardesses in “Cosmic Girl” uniforms! Upon take-off, the overhead lockers opened up to reveal flashing disco lights. Jamiroquai performed at the front of the plane where the first 6 or 7 rows of seats had been removed. Guests had to remain in their seats, presumably for health and safety reasons, but as there was a camera crew filming the performance, they could still see everything from tv screens throughout the plane. There was a small bit of turbulence during the performance but like a true professional, Jay simply clung onto an overhead locker and carried on. It’s now official, Jamiroquai have entered the Guinness Book of Records – for The Highest Ever Gig! During the flight, a meal of chicken was served with chocolate mousse for dessert. There was 10 golden Tickets amongst the dinners served, with the lucky recipients winning the chance to meet and greet the band. Nobody went away empty-handed though – everyone got the new Sony Ericsson mobile phone and special Gig in the Sky commerative bag. We will be uploading photos and video as they come in, but for now, here’s the full setlist – Jamiroquai played for 30 minutes

Ebbene si, oggi è il grande giorno del “Gig in the sky”, il concerto più alto di tutti i tempi. I Jamiroquai si sono esibiti oggi pomeriggio a bordo di un Boeing (appositamente modificato) davanti ad un pubblico di fortunati vincitori di un concorso indetto dalla Sony Music.
Il sito ufficiale della band ha postato alcune informazioni su com’è andato il pomeriggio della band e dei fans:
After being flown out to Munich from their respective locations, the Gig in the Sky competition winners checked in for the mystery-destination flight eager with anticipation for what the unplugged gig and afterparty might bring. The winners, and the band, are currently mid-flight, having taken off from Munich at roughly 15.00 GMT. Of the winners, the furthest travelled has to be a group of six from Johannesburg, South Africa. Two of the group, David and Rudy, said that after leaving South Africa at 8pm on Monday night it had been a long journey but that it was well worth it! Guests were each given a free bag with their name on it and funky Jamiroquai embroidery accross the front. A collectors item already, no doubt! As soon as the plane lands in the secret destination, Jamiroquai.com will be uploading more pictures, news and the full setlist so check back soon. Upon landing, Jamiroquai will be proud holders of a World Record for the Highest Ever Gig. Safe trip Jamiroquai!

La radio inglese Capital FM ha indetto un concorso per aggiudicarsi i biglietti per l’esclusivo concerto che i Jamiroquai terranno il 7 Marzo in collaborazione con la Intel e che verrà trasmesso proprio da questa emittente.

Ricordate il trambusto quando apprendemmo della notizia di Jay Kay a Torino per girare una pubblicità? Tempo dopo scoprimmo che i Jamiroquai avevano firmato un accordo pubblicitario con la Clarion per la promozione del nuovo sistema multimediale Clarion H.M.I. (Human Mobile Music Media Interface) progettato per le automobili.
Bene, da oggi il sito della Clarion ha iniziato la promozione di questo sistema lanciando un sito web molto accattivante con numerosi video e bellissime fotografie in cui compare Jay Kay, testimonial esclusivo della campagna, alla guida di “Moray”, l’auto tutta italiana disegnata da Giugiaro.
Inoltre sono scaricabili sfondi per il PC e un calendario 2007.

Rob Harris, chitarrista dei Jamiroquai, ha annunciato con un post sul suo blog su myspace.com che domenica è nata la sua seconda figlia a cui hanno dato il nome Liberty.
